The DEI Coalition was founded and is led by Fozia Irfan OBE FRSA, the leading expert on DEI in philanthropy in the UK and an experienced funder.

Fozia was CEO of the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation for 3 years and undertook a transformative process at the Foundation to implement an equitable and inclusive funding distribution process. This process considered all stages of grantmaking processes as well as the internal demographics and culture of the Foundation, and focussed on a community-centred approach.

Fozia has completed a Masters in Grantmaking, Philanthropy and Social Investments (with Distinction) from Cass Business School which included a dissertation on comparatives approaches of foundations in addressing inequality, part of which she required her to study and work with US foundations. She was also a commissioner for the Inclusive Growth Commission and a Trustee for the Association of Charitable Foundations and is currently on the Board of Fair4all Finance which addresses financial exclusion.She is also a visiting lecturer at Cass Business school, teaching on the Strategy, Diversity and Governance modules.

Fozia was shortlisted for the Charity Governance Awards for ‘Managing Turnaround 2020’ in recognition of her achievements both in achieving a new vision for the Foundation and for her endeavours in changing the sector as a whole. She was also awarded the Charity Times ‘Rising Star’ award for 2018 and named as one of the ’25 Most Influential Charity Leaders’ in 2019. She is a Leadership Fellow at St Georges, Windsor and appointed a Churchill Fellow in 2020.

Fozia is experienced in public speaking, frequently a keynote speaker at national conferences and specialist foundation events, covering topics such as leadership, strategy, equity and philanthropy. Fozia runs regular workshops and training events for the philanthropic sector and is occasionally available for specialist consultancy projects.
